Day 10 Blackrod to Slaidburn- Short milage and hardest work

We should have known when our our host chuckled that we'd enjoy the hills he knew what he was talking about. We set off into the rain and mist and 5 hours later arrived at alunch stop having achieved the grand total of 23 miles! After being revived by the enthusiasm of a couple in the Whalley tea rooms we were off again up hills - 900 ft - and down dales to the remotest outpost of the Forest of Bowland.
This really is another country and another time.
I'm standing typing this half way into a field. The only place I can get a signal! From Gig x

  1. I don't think I would have made it past Cornwall! Well done so far Davies-Ladies! (You should get hen-night style t-shirts/jackets saying Davies Ladies!)
    Keep on pedalling!

  2. There's not much to do on the bus to and from Catford, so I took inspiration from your various blogs and made up a few more verses.

Speed bonny bikes to our destination,
    On our great, long journey,
Follow the line on our Sat Navigation,
    You'll find the way easily.
    Sixty miles a day,
    It's all work, no play.
    Traveling from sea to sea.

Speed bonny bikes before we all die of thirst,
It's time for a cup of tea,
Yank up the gears, Let's see who's first
to spy an old tea shop-pe.
    Put on the kettle,
    The bill we will settle,
When we've drunk a cup or three.

Stop bonny bikes, we've got a puncture,
    We'll fix it immediately.
There's no choice, at this particular juncture,
As the bike mechanic said to me -
    Our simple goal,
Is to patch up the hole,
    And continue on speedily.

Speed bonny bikes, like the wind in the tree,
    Along the road ahead.
Carry us to our next B&B,
A hot bath and a bed.
    Pedal all day,
    Along the way,
    My bum feels half- dead.

Rest bonny bikes, it's the end of the day,
    We'll ride you again tomorrow.
You won't understand, but here we must stay,
    Hungry we've begun to grow.
    We'll eat a big stew,
    With drinks, quite a few.
We'll be on our way tomorrow.

I have another tune going round my brain which I thought was the combined harvester song, but know I realise it is the Pushbike Song by The Mixtures ( who are not to be confused with Mungo Jerry!) Do you remember it? Shall I look up the words?

I will see where you are tomorrow.
    Bye for now
